Motorcycle Awareness Month With Shefman Law

Hey riders! My name is Lenore Shefman and I’m with CyclistLaw.com. We’re trial attorneys for motorcyclists right here in Austin, Texas.

It’s May and May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and I just want to offer a few tips to make sure when you pull that ride out everything is in tip-top order.

Make sure all of your fluids are leveled up and that everything is there. Make sure your tire pressure is at its adequate level. If it’s not, bring it in to the shop. You’re going to want to refill it with nitrogen.

If you have a belt-driven system, you will not need to worry about lubing your chain. If you need lube, get lube.

Now, if you’re a new rider, get a helmet, and get yourself some proper gear. You want to make sure you have armor on and you want to make sure you have a good-fitting pair of boots.

If you are buying a bike for the first time, make sure that bike is not more bike than you can handle. Truer words could not be said. Buy a bike that fits comfortably and that you can maneuver well on.

Also, take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. It will be required for you to get the “M” endorsement in the State of Texas. But if you’ve been riding for a long time or if you haven’t been a rider in a while, there are advanced courses as well as maintenance courses that will teach you how to tune up your own ride.

I’m Lenore Shefman with CyclistLaw.com. We’re trial attorneys for motorcyclists. You can reach us at (512) 386-8117, and ideally you never need us. But we’ve got your back if you do.
